Claude Code as my personal financial coach

Last week I had a simple idea: what if I could get weekly spending reports, with AI automatically categorizing everything and ideally with zero manual input (or as close to it as possible)

So I built this Skill (or better said Claude Code build one) that’s: → Connecting to my bank via GoCardless open banking API → Pulls all transactions automatically → Categorizes spending (groceries, utilities, transport, etc.) → Calculates my actual savings rate → Shows me week-over-week comparisons

The screenshot shows it running on my actual December data. Built in one sitting.

And what’s nice is that it’s not just a one-off script - it has become a pretty reusable workflow. Now when I ask “how did my spending compare to last month?” Claude knows exactly what to fetch, how to analyze it, and how I want it to present it.

Next step: adding an automation layer. Cron job on a cheap VPS maybe? But I would definitely love to get a weekly email report with this data. This is what excites me about where AI tools are heading. Not replacing financial advisors - but giving everyone their own personal automation toolkit that that people can use and take advantage of.

Anyone else building Skills or automations with Claude? Curious what problems you’re solving.
